The person arrested as we know is Keefe D who confessed to being part of the hit and he said he handed the weapon used in the murder to his cousin Orlando Anderson. But were they paid to have pac killed? Now the claims is that P. Diddy paid for the NYC 94 hit on PAC and that money he paid was why Keefe D and his crew ended up executing PAC in 1996 after the initial attempt on his life didn't go as planned and PAC survived the 94 attempt on his life.
Now it's being said a possible copy of the check provided by P. Diddy might have leaked online? While I never Met Tupac in person he's my all time favorite artist/rapper and I did also love Biggies music and was a fan of his, and got to meet him back after "Ready 2 Die" came out at a restaurant here near Miami Airport as he and members of Junior Mafia were here to represent at a show in South Beach to promote his "Ready to Die" album. He was from my only encounter with him as a very nice guy and while I was a kid he spoke to me on the level, and had this to say to me... Darrell Neely is now the first misdemeanor defendant to receive more than a year in prison in the so called insurrection. Or Capitol riot case. Right out of Washington a federal judge sentenced one of only a handful of D.C. residents charged in connection with the Capitol riot to 28 months in prison Tuesday marking the first time a misdemeanor Jan. 6 defendant has received more than a year behind bars.
Darrell Neely was convicted in a bench trial in May of five misdemeanor counts. Prosecutors said the radio and YouTube broadcaster had spent more than an hour inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 and stole four china plates, as well as multiple items belonging to a Capitol Police officer, including the jacket bearing his badge. U.S. District Juge John Bates, who presided over the trial, acquitted Neely of a felony count of civil disorder.
Although the misdemeanor charges Neely was convicted of carry a maximum statutory penalty of one year in prison, prosecutors asked Bates to sentence him to 33 months behind bars. They argued his lengthy criminal history, which includes a domestic violence case, his decision to abscond from D.C. while he was on pretrial release and his lack of remorse warranted nearly three years in prison.
Bates, a 2001 nominee of former President George W. Bush, explained in court Tuesday that to give such a prison term he would have to use what’s known as “stacking” or consecutive sentences. Prior to Tuesday, no judge had ordered consecutive sentences in a Jan. 6 case. But Bates said he thought Neely warranted it.
“What really convinces me that the sentences should be stacked… is that criminal history, which is pretty unique among misdemeanors, your lack of respect for the law, which is glaring, and your flight while facing prosecution,” Bates said.
Bates ordered Neely held without bond last year after he failed to appear for multiple court appearances. Neely’s attorneys, Kira Anne West and Nicole Ann Cubbage, asked Bates to sentence him to effectively time-served for the period he spent in the D.C. Jail. West highlighted a number of continuing education courses Neely had completed while in detention, including courses in digital marketing and veterinary studies.
Neely said Tuesday he went inside the Capitol as a journalist because another Jan. 6 defendant initially described in his filings as the “woman in a pink beret” now identified and charged as Jennifer Inzunza Vargas Geller told him she would help him interview members of the Proud Boys. Neely also previously alleged, without evidence, that he believed Vargas Geller had a connection to law enforcement.
Neely asked Bates to look past his criminal record and sentence him far below what prosecutors were requesting. “A person’s record is not who they are,” Neely said. “You’re trying to make a person out of a piece of paper.” Bates ultimately sentenced Neely to 28 months. He said the DOJ’s request for 33 months was excessive, but Neely clearly had been deterred by his previous encounters with the justice system.
He also rejected the idea that Neely entered the building as a journalist. “The encouragement of other rioters is certainly not the conduct of a neutral, uninvolved journalist,” Bates said.
Neely was the first Jan. 6 defendant to receive a stacked sentence, but quickly gained company in that category Tuesday afternoon. Later in the day, U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly ordered former Proud Boys chairman Enrique Tarrio to serve 22 years in prison for his role in a plot to incite violence at the Capitol and stop the certification of the 2020 election.
Because the most serious charge Tarrio was convicted of, seditious conspiracy, carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, Kelly ordered the sentence on a separate count served consecutively to reach 22 years and he wasn't even at the so called insurrection. How does that work? You give a guy 22 years who wasn't even there and nobody from his group did anything to do anything. Friends these numbers were worse, however, than his margin in the same poll two months ago, when he led by 46 points.
The poll also showed what former Vice President Mike Pence and others looked like and the traitor former VP came in third, at 6%.

And on Sunday,NBC Newsreleased a survey conducted by Hart Research Associates and Public Opinion Strategies that shows Trump’s lead has expanded by five points since before his indictment in April, from 46% to 51%.
DeSantis’ lead dropped over the same period from 31% to 22% in that poll, with Pence and Haley receiving small one-point bumps each.
“For the first time in history, a former president has been indicted, and we can’t find a marker in this survey that it’s had an impact with his standing,” said Public Opinion Strategies co-founder Bill McInturff.
If President Joe Biden's Justice Department truly seeks to damage former President Donald Trump with investigations and indictments, it is not working.
Even the latest NBC News poll finds Trump has expanded his lead on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the rest of the primary field to 29 points, nearly doubling his lead from April (15 points). And we know much hate mainstream media has for Trump and NBC has not been kind to the former President.
So far the 51% majority of Republican primary voters nationwide now pick Trump over DeSantis (22%), former Vice President Mike Pence (7%), former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (5%), with no other candidate getting more than 4%, according to the poll. The question after he recently got booed off stage is why does Chris Christie think people like him enough to be taken serious for the job? He's a slob, a Rino, an idiot, and worse of all! A Traitor.
"For the first time in history, a former president has been indicted, and we can't find a marker in this survey that it's had an impact with his standing," Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies told NBC News.
Trump's support "is a strong starting number," McInturff added. "Something has to happen to shift this race." A 37-count federal indictment is not it. Trump was at 46% to DeSantis' 31% in April, which was conducted shortly after Trump's Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indictment.
"Not only are they sticking with Trump post-federal indictment, there are several signs that his support is growing or others are losing ground, particularly Ron DeSantis," Democrat pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates said of Republican voters.
Republican strategists have long noted a full field of challengers to Trump would merely split the share of the anti-Trump vote, while Trump holds a rock-solid base.
There is some of that found in this NBC poll, as the two-candidate Trump versus DeSantis race shows Trump picking up 9 points (60% support) and DeSantis gaining 14 points (36%) when the rest of the field is removed.
That 5-point boost is not enough to break Trump's hold on the Republican Party, although this is a nationwide poll and not a state-by-state primary delegate breakdown.
There are 64% of Republican voters who see the indictments and investigations of Trump as politically motivated, even if half of the party's voters are ready to consider a candidate other than Trump, according to the poll.
In a head-to-head hypothetical general election matchup, NBC News' poll gives Biden (49%) a 4-point edge over Trump (45%), which is just outside the margin of error.
"Looking back at 2020, the election was a referendum on Donald Trump," Horwitt, the Democrat pollster, told NBC News. "And if we have a Biden-Trump rematch, there are powerful signs that the focus will once again be more on Trump than Biden."
The NBC News poll was conducted June 16-20 among 1,000 registered voters and has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. There were 500 Republican primary voters polled with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.38 percentage points.

Newsweek has reached out to the DeSantis campaign via its website for comment.
DeSantis, who is likely aware of the ex-president's continued popularity among Republicans, has been reticent to engage with Trump's rhetoric directly since announcing his intention to challenge him in 2024. However, the governor did address the ex-president's most frequent nickname for him before officially announcing his candidacy, saying, "I kind of like it," during a Piers Morgan interview in March. "I don't know how to spell DeSanctimonious," DeSantis said. "I don't really know what it means but, you know, I kind of like it. It's long. It's got a lot of vowels. I mean, we'd go with that. That's fine." So he just told the world he likes being disloyal? hmmm

But the former intelligence officer who claims the US government has recovered multiple UFOs of 'non-human origin' has also claimed that dead pilots have been retrieved from wreckages. David Charles Grusch, an Air Force veteran and former member of the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, said the US and other nations are engaged in a top-secret arms race to 'reverse-engineer' alien technology.
He made the extraordinary claims in media interviews this week, after filing a whistleblower complaint providing what he calls classified 'proof' to Congress and the Intelligence Community Inspector General. Grusch, 36, said that in addition to recovering partial and intact extraterrestrial craft for decades, the US government has also retrieved the remains of alien pilots.
'Naturally, when you recover something that's either landed or crashed. Sometimes you encounter dead pilots and believe it or not, as fantastical as that sounds, it's true,' he told NewsNation. Grusch is a former member of the Pentagon's Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) Task Force, which was tasked with investigating UFOs and has since reorganized into the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), to include investigations of objects operating underwater. Citing witness statements from numerous current and former intelligence officers, Grusch claims that key information about recovered non-human craft was withheld from the UAP Task Force during his tenure.
'I thought it was totally nuts and I thought at first I was being deceived, it was a ruse,' Grusch told NewsNation. 'People started to confide in me. Approach me. I have plenty of senior, former, intelligence officers that came to me, many of which I knew almost my whole career, that confided in me that they were part of a program.' He says that he learned of a secret US program attempting to reverse-engineer alien technology, which was not disclosed to the task force members.
'These are retrieving non-human origin technical vehicles, call it spacecraft if you will, non-human exotic origin vehicles that have either landed or crashed,' Grusch said.
Grusch said he had never seen photos of the alleged recovered craft, but that he had spoken extensively with others who had. In a statement to DailyMail.com on Tuesday, Department of Defense spokesperson Sue Gough said: 'To date, AARO has not discovered any verifiable information to substantiate claims that any programs regarding the possession or reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial materials have existed in the past or exist currently.' She added that the task force has established a process for individuals to come forward to aid in a congressionally-mandated historical review, which AARO is due to provide to Congress by June 2024.
'AARO is committed to following the data and its investigation wherever it leads,' said Gough.
'We are not talking about prosaic origins or identities. The material includes intact and partially intact vehicles,' Grusch told The Debrief, which first reported his claims. 'The existence of complex historical programs involving the coordinated retrieval and study of exotic materials, dating back to the early 20th century, should no longer remain a secret.' Grusch, who served in Afghanistan and worked for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), has handed over details of the alleged operations to Congress and the Intelligence Community Inspector General.
He has also filed a complaint against the Department of Defense and claims he's been ostracized for his decision to blow the whistle.
The 36-year-old worked on the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force from 2019-2021. A retired Army Colonel who was also part of the UAP task force, Karl Nell, said: 'His assertion concerning the existence of a terrestrial arms race occurring sub-rosa over the past eighty years focused on reverse engineering technologies of unknown origin is fundamentally correct, as is the indisputable realization that at least some of these technologies of unknown origin derive from non-human intelligence.'
Grusch said that keeping the information secret 'further inhibits the world populace to be prepared for an unexpected, non-human intelligence contact scenario'. The claims comes days after a Pentagon chief admitted that unidentified metallic orb UFOs have been spotted 'all over the world'. Physicist Dr Sean Kirkpatrick, director of the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), told NASA's first ever public hearing into the phenomenon: 'We see these ['metallic orbs'] all over the world, and we see these making very interesting apparent maneuvers.'
Dr Kirkpatrick presented AARO's latest findings to NASA's independent team of scientists and other experts who have been tasked with studying the UFO phenomenon which has become increasingly less stigmatized following several high-profile congressional hearings and military sightings.
Scientists and policymakers from NASA's independent panel also discussed their own proposed recommendations to the federal space agency, including: an active effort to remove the stigma surrounding UAP research, as well as a hunt for alien 'artifacts' within our solar system. Meanwhile, it was also revealed at the NASA hearing that the space agency will work closely with the Pentagon's official UFO investigators on top secret UFO cases. Dr Kirkpatrick said that the Pentagon is closely collaborating with 'NASA embeds,' scientists who have been cleared for work on classified UAP cases where their expertise could help military investigators identify the mysterious craft or events.
Kirkpatrick added that AARO plans to deploy 'dedicated sensors for typical UAP' sightings, equipment independent of the existing military defense sensors that have thus far picked up UAP evidence in the course of their normal duties. Both NASA's head of science, the space and atmospheric physicist Dr. Nicky Fox, and AARO's director, Dr. Kirkpatrick, also took time to rebuke unnamed individuals for harassing members of the NASA panel. Both said that these attitudes, online and among officialdom, have contributed to the continuing social stigma surrounding UAP.
NASA UAP study group member Karlin Toner, senior advisor for data policy integration of the FAA's Office of Aviation Policy and Plans, recommended that the space agency work to 'make it safer to explore data' for any scientists facing the 'negative stigma' surrounding UAP. Toner suggested that the independent panel 'consider advising NASA to more fully assess the cultural and social barriers to studying and reporting UAP,' to effectively work hard to end the stigma on UAP research among the scientific community. NASA, she said, should 'implement a plan to leverage its brand image to start removing these obstacles.' Ultimately, however, as the chair of NASA's independent UAP panel, theoretical astrophysicist David Spergel, described it, their group's main purpose is to answer this one question: 'How can NASA contribute to understanding the nature of UAPs?' He summarized the current state of data collection efforts on UAP as 'unsystematic' and 'fragmented across various agencies' often using instruments that were fit for their security or safety mandate, but 'uncalibrated for scientific data collection.
Like some of you know "2Pac" or "Tupac Shakur" or however you would spell his name just got a long overdue posthumously star on Hollywood Walk of Fame! Shakur is one of only 12 rap artists, including Queen Latifah and Ice-T, who have received a star on the Walk of Fame and the first I do think but I could be wrong on that so don't sue me if there is one other or two.
But as a BIG BIG fan of 2Pac since 1990 and having seen him rise, and pass way to seen and having heard all his music hundreds of times, and knowing all the lyrics all I can say is he should have got one 2 decades ago at least. But better late than never.
He lived to be only 25 yet his music is still hitting people today like if he could tell the future. IF You listen close it's like he speaks of what we're facing today in a lot of what he said when he was in his early 20's. Without a doubt a man before his time, and one who left us many songs, and a few movies to marvel at the talent that was taken in 1996... He will always be my favorite rapper, and he will always be an influence in me, and the hip hop culture. Rest in Peace to him and thank god they finally are showing Pac love with this STAR... It's something to show he left his imprint in society and the people involved in these matters are finally starting to wake up... Hope they're listening to his words in his music too.

Teacher's aide, 57, who was brutally beaten by 6'6" teen student is a 'humble' mom-of-two working two jobs whose son attends Florida high school where she was knocked out and pummeled.
Joan Naydich, 57, of Palm Coast, Florida, was thrown to the ground and knocked unconscious by a teen student on Tuesday at Matanzas High School after she took away his Nintendo Switch. The mother-of-two has a son Morgan, a senior, who attends the high school and a daughter who graduated in 2013. She has worked for Flagler County Schools since 2004 and has worked at Matanzas since 2021.
Flagler County deputies found Naydich with 'severe' injuries after she was hit by the student at least 15 times. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment. It is unclear if she is still in the hospital.
Sheriff Rick Staly told WESH 2: 'This could have been a homicide.' the victime is I quote 'Joan is humble, never asks for help and needs our love/support during this difficult time,' friend and fellow parent, Jessica White Leon, wrote on GoFundMe. 'I've had the privilege of getting to know Joan through our kids' bowling team for Matanzas HS for the last six years!'
The student, who is special needs, was arrested and charged with a juvenile felony for aggravated battery with bodily harm, which faces up to five years. He is currently in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice. In surveillance footage, released by the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, the hulking student can be seen rushing up to Naydich before launching her across the room, her body flying several feet. She hits the ground head-first, rendering her unconscious. The special needs student immediately begins kicking Naydich before kneeling down to punch her in the head and torso.
Another woman runs up to the student and grabs his arm, but is unable to pull him off the aide before several others rush to drag him off her. Even after they manage to push him to the ground, he still reaches his leg out to hit Naydich a few more times. It takes five staff members to restrain and drag him away from her body as he fought against them. The Flagler County Sheriff's Office found Naydich with 'severe injuries' and she was transported to the hospital for treatment. The teen claimed he would 'beat her up every time she takes away his game,' and spat on Naydich as deputies escorted him away, according to the arrest report.
In bodycam footage, the student can be seen asking officers if he is 'going to jail,' while they handcuff him in the school. 'For how long?' the students asked. 'I don't know,' the officer replied. Moments later he told officers: 'F**k you, I don't want to go to jail. I have more important things to do,' before accusing them of manhandling him.
Staly called the ordeal 'absolutely horrendous and completely uncalled for.' 'We hope [Naydich] will be able to recover, both mentally and physically, from this incident,' he said in a statement. 'Our schools should be a safe place for both employees and students.' Flagler Schools Superintendent Cathy Mittelstadt agreed, saying: 'Creating a safe learning and working environment on our campuses is critical. Violence is never an appropriate reaction.' Matanzas High School said it had 'no comment,' when contacted by the DailyMail.com.
The Flagler School Board did say at a meeting after the event that they have made it a 'high priority' to go over policy to 'help with this.'
After the attack, Mental Health Advocate, Sue Urban - whose 17-year-old son Nicholas graduated from Matanzas High School before taking his own life - responded to the incident, claiming it wasn't 'his fault,' despite swift backlash. 'This is not this child's fault. He is not a threat,' Urban said in an emotionally Facebook Live.
'This is a mental health issue. This is a problem with our system, it is broken.' Urban, who also has a stepson in the same behavioral wing as the boy in the video, told DailyMail.com on Friday that the special wing is for 'children that are not in the general population of the high school,' and that her son and the boy were 'school friends' in separate classes. She told DailyMail.com that the child lived in a group home and his mother did not live in Flagler County, which a faculty member told her at the school board meeting on Wednesday night.
'That child should not have been transported to jail, he should have been transported to a mental health facility,' she said on Facebook Live. 'Please stop labeling this child as a monster. Yes, his size is a big factor, [but] he did not know he was doing wrong. 'These kids are given extra attention in those classes.
They are given leeway to have these devices, so when they do lose their tempers or if they do get into that mental space, that they can have those Switches or phones or their comfort devices, [so] that they can calm down.'
Despite her strong position, she faced swift backlash, with many claiming the child should be charged as an adult and face jail time. Kimberly Rosania told DailyMail.com that 'one of the reasons I’m being so vocal is [their identities have] not been released.
I care more about whether an innocent woman than I do a predator.' She also claimed in a Facebook post that community members 'defended this behavior and this animal.'
'Claiming his disabilities are and should keep him protected, this is insanity! If he was not stable enough to value human life over a $300.00 video game why was he among innocent lives to begin with? Why were those lives less valuable than his education? This a broken system!' Another woman, Karen Puca, said the video was 'concerning' and said she would 'love to hear how the MHS leadership is handling such nonsense' as several have reported there were more fights this week.

As Elon the new owner of Twitter has claimed in a recent tweet that Twitter has “failed in trust & safety for a very long time and has interfered in elections.” Musk has promised to release internal documents to restore public trust in the company.
The comment was sparked after Reuters tweeted an interview with the extreme leftist former head of Trust and Safety, Yoel Roth, in which he stated that the platform has not been made “safer” under Musk. Why do they hate the truth, and American people?
One user responded to the Reuters tweet stating that Twitter has “shown itself to not be safe for the past 10 years and has lost users’ trust.” To which Musk responded: “Exactly. The obvious reality, as long-time users know, is that Twitter has failed in trust & safety for a very long time and has interfered in elections.” Musk further promised that “Twitter 2.0” will be “far more effective, transparent, and even-handed.”
Twitter has long been accused of interfering in elections, particularly those in the United States. The platform famously banned the New York Post for 16 days following the publication of a story relating to the laptop of Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden.
Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey claimed the company reinstated the New York Post’s account “almost immediately,” despite the fact the account was suspended for 16 days after reporting on the contents of Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop from hell.
After a short-lived hiatus from the app, Dorsey took to Twitter to take responsibility for instances in which Twitter “went too far.”
“I have tried taking a break from Twitter recently, but I must say: the company has always tried to do its best given the information it had. Every decision we made was ultimately my responsibility*,” Dorsey tweeted. “In the cases we were wrong or went too far, we admitted it and worked to correct.”
Breitbart News has also reported that many celebrities and public figures have been banned from Twitter for posting content the platform claims could “interfere” in elections, such as conservative actor James Woods. Breitbart News reported:
Conservative actor James Woods was locked out of Twitter on Friday for posting a two-month-old meme that Jack Dorsey’s social media platform believes “could impact an election.”
According to screenshots provided by Woods’ associate Sara Miller, Twitter asked the 71-year-old actor to delete the image as it contained “text and imagery that has the potential to be misleading in a way that could impact an election.”
The meme in question showed three young men representing stereotypical male feminists saying they planned to abstain in the upcoming midterm elections so women could decide the outcome of the election.
“You are a coward, @jack. There is no free speech for Conservatives on @Twitter,” Woods said in a statement about the account lock.
In a viral tweet earlier this month, Woods warned that the banning of Infowars personality Alex Jones was the beginning of a “slippery slope” towards “real fascism.” Twitter has a long, detailed history of censoring and suppressing conservative voices.
During the 2020 election, Twitter also censored tweets from former President Donald Trump before eventually blacklisting him. Breitbart News reported:

The platform also added a link encouraging users to “learn about US 2020 election security efforts.”
This is the second time in the space of two days that Twitter has censored a tweet from the President.
On Tuesday, the full US Senate was sworn in as jury members of the upcoming impeachment trial against former president Donald Trump. The Senate also heard and rejected a motion to dismiss the trial, which is set to take place the week of February 8.

Holy crap folks a major leak has exposed the details of nearly 2 million Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members who have been secretly embedded in some of the biggest companies, banks, universities and government agencies globally!!! Now according to a report by The Australian‘s Sharri Markson, the leak contains a register with details of CCP members including their names, party position, national id number and ethnicity.
“What’s amazing about this database is not just that it exposes people who are members of the communist party, and who are now living and working all over the world, from Australia to the U.S. to the U.K.,” said Markson on Sky News Australia. “But it’s amazing because it lifts the lid on how the party operates under President and Chairman Xi Jinping.”
The leak reveals the details of 1.95 million CCP members in around 79,000 branches of the CCP that have been set up inside western companies. Members of these branches are, if called on, answerable directly to the party and to Xi himself.
Reported among the companies mentioned in the list are manufacturers such as Volkswagen and Boeing, pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer and AstraZeneca as well as banks such as HSBC and Standard and Chartered. On the latter, the leak claims that around 600 people at those banks are members of the CCP.
According to Markson, the data was originally extracted from a server in Shanghai by Chinese dissidents and whistleblowers in April of 2016, who have been using it for counter-intelligence purposes.
It was only this past September that the data was leaked to the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, a newly-formed international bi-partisan group made up of 150 legislators from around the world.
Following that, the data was then released to an “international consortium” of media organizations who analyzed it over the past two months. These outlets were Australia’s The Australian, the U.K.’s The Sunday Mail, Belgium’s De Standaard as well as an editor in Sweden.
The leak is the latest evidence of the extent of the CCP’s espionage activities as it tries to increase China’s influence and power globally. It also punctuates other warnings that have been raised about the extent of Chinese espionage that have been made in recent months.
Just last month, former senior U.S. intelligence official turned analyst and author Nicholas Eftimiades warned that Chinese espionage operations around the world were now “off the scale.” Eftimiades, who wrote a book on China’s intelligence operations back in 1994, stated that Chinese intelligence activities were much more pervasive now than when he wrote his book. More importantly, Eftimiades warned that the CCP had adopted a “whole-of-society” approach to acquiring foreign intellectual property, stating that this approach “energizes all of society to support national, economic, and military development goals.”
The extent of the espionage is evidenced by the over 1,000 Chinese researchers with suspected links to China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) that have left the U.S. since law enforcement agencies started cracking down on technological and economic espionage.
During a discussion hosted by the Aspen Institute, the Department of Justice‘s (DOJ) Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Demers said that these Chinese military-linked researchers left the country after the department started filing its many criminal cases against suspected Chinese operatives.
These arrests started earlier this year when at least four Chinese researchers were arrested and charged with visa fraud for lying on their applications. Chinese researchers usually get charged with this for failing to reveal their ties to the Chinese government.
According to Demers, these arrests were “the tip of the iceberg” that led the DOJ’s National Security Division to open an investigation that eventually uncovered a vast network of Chinese researchers with PLA ties.
This sentiment is echoed by National Counterintelligence and Security Center Director William Evanina, who said that there were even more Chinese operatives lurking in the United States. In particular, he suspects that many are coming into the country under the guise of being graduate-level students in universities and colleges.
“Let’s not kid ourselves. They are all coming here at the behest of the Chinese government intelligence services,” Evanina said. “They’re going to specific universities to study specific fields or areas that are going to benefit … the Chinese Communist Party and the military.”
Already, the more than 1,000 visas of Chinese students with ties to the PLA have been revoked. DOJ officials have made it clear that this group of students is different from the previous group of over 1,000 who fled the country in prior months.
Even as U.S. officials continue to fight Chinese espionage, the future of these efforts is now in doubt. These efforts thrived under the administration of President Donald Trump, who has largely been critical of China and the CCP. Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, on the other hand, is generally seen as being more friendly towards China.
Should the latter become president, the question then is if the current efforts to curtail Chinese espionage in the U.S. will continue. This matter is complicated by the fact that Biden’s son Hunter has had dealings with Chinese corporations in the past.
It’s quite possible that a Biden administration could reverse course on Trump’s treatment of China. With what we know now based on the recent leak and the government’s own efforts, then China could stand to gain even more from its espionage efforts than it already has.
