Trump made it official Tuesday night! He's back!

Well by the end of Donald Trump's presidency, he can't wait to get back to work for us by doing right for our country in the agenda we all need to get behind. Amgerica FIRST!  Tuesday evening, the former president announced his third consecutive campaign for the presidency. “America’s comeback starts right now,” Trump told a MAGA-friendly crowd assembled at his Mar-a-Lago compound.

With a backdrop of American flags, Trump said “everybody was thriving like never before” during his presidency, and that all President Joe Biden had to do was “sit back and watch.” But now, Trump claimed, “we are a nation in decline.” He mentioned gas prices, inflation, the economy, the southern border, and “the blood-soaked streets of our cities.”

“We are here tonight to declare that it does not have to be this way,” Trump said. “In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for President of the United States,” he said to the crowd’s delight.

His speech was some of the usual things we have come to expect from him now like a little too much self-congratulations as that can rub some as arrogance, and turn voters off he needs to watch that. He falsely alluded to fraud in the 2020 election (“China played a very active role in the 2020 election"), claimed Russia would have never invaded Ukraine if he were president, said “millions and millions” of immigrants were making “an invasion into our country,” touted his record on “the China virus,” and bizarrely claimed that climate change would only increase sea levels by one-eighth of an inch over the next 200 to 300 years.

But despite playing the hits, it was a bit low key compared to other speeches but this is just one of many to come so we must have patience, and see what he says next. Trump also officially filed his paperwork with the Federal Election Commission Tuesday. But all is not well in Trumpworld.

After last week’s disappointing midterm election results for Republicans—particularly for the Republicans Trump endorsed—there’s a new sense in the GOP that Republicans ought to turn the page. Voters preferred Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to Trump as the GOP nominee in a recent YouGov poll conducted last week. GOP pundits have been slamming Trump since last week, after voters widely rejected his brand of politics at the ballot box. And Fox News chairman Rupert Murdoch has told confidants he has no plans to back.

Still, Trump is betting that by getting out ahead of the rest of the GOP candidates, he can clear the field and coalesce support around his candidacy. But this time around, it might not be so simple. For months, Trump has repeatedly inquired how his poll numbers compare to those of prominent Republicans, such as Trump’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, South Dakota’s Governor Kristi Noem, and former Vice President Mike Pence. But Trump has particularly become fixated on DeSantis. As The Daily Beast reported last week, tensions between the camps are quietly simmering over, even as his advisers believe DeSantis won’t be a real threat to the former president.

“Trump’s going to end up doing to DeSantis and his wife what he did to Cruz and his wife,” a Trump adviser said, referencing how Trump went after Sen. Ted Cruz in 2016. Over the past month, Trump has turned to publicly mocking the Florida Governor as "Ron DeSanctimonious."

Trump’s early announcement would appear to put to DeSantis a question: Will he challenge Trump? And in that sense, Trump getting out ahead of the rest of the field would make some sense. As is usually the case with Trump, however, the announcement could also just be another representation of Trump’s make-it-up-as-you-go-along style of politics. Last week, Trump considered making his 2024 declaration at a rally in Vandalia, Ohio, ahead of the midterms, which left many in Trump’s orbit scrambling to convince him otherwise. One adviser told The Daily Beast that the announcement (or lack thereof) was a game-time decision, comparing it to a “coin toss.”

And this past summer, advisers wondered if a July 4th announcement might occur in the spur of the moment. Trump is still declaring his 2024 candidacy before the midterm elections; the Georgia Senate election has gone to a runoff, and despite some advisers telling Trump he should wait until that race is over, Trump moved forward.

Trump seems to believe his candidacy could provide some protection from a potential criminal indictment over a number of alleged crimes, most notably his mishandling of classified materials. But former prosecutors say that thinking is flawed.

Now that he’s announced, Trump is counting on Republicans coming back to him. The question is whether independents—particularly a critical mass of independents—will find a way to support Trump. But the first step is getting some of Trump’s biggest cheerleaders back, as some major MAGA supporters have been showing some reservations lately.

"Yeah, I’m out,” pro-Trump and Dilbert cartoon creator Scott Adams wrote Saturday after Trump additionally attacked Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin. Likewise, Ann Coulter ripped into Trump recently and told him to “shut the fuck up, forever.”

“He’s also, I think, served his purpose in a way that I think many Republicans are satisfied with and they would prefer now to move on,” Federalist co-founder Ben Domenech recently said on Fox News.

It remains to be seen whether Trump Republicans would actually prefer to move on. After taking so many shots from Trump, the former president’s chief rival offered perhaps his sternest rebuke Tuesday.

Discussing his detractors, DeSantis said he would tell people “to go check out the scoreboard from last Tuesday night,” alluding to election night results that weren’t favorable to Trump-backed candidates...

Pence sued by Texas GOP Congressman Louie Gohmert over competing electors

In an interesting move Rep. Louie Gohmert is suing Vice President Mike Pence in a bid to overturn the stolen election by President-elect Joe Biden’s victory over current President Trump. The fix was in folks, and we all can see it, and so Gohmert and several other Republicans who are named in the suit, including Republican slate of electors from Arizona, aim to allow Pence to overturn Trump’s defeat in some key states when Congress meets to count Electoral College votes on Jan. 6. The vice president traditionally presides over this meeting as president of the Senate, where they officially announce the results of the election.

Now before you all lose your shit over this, and think this isn’t a well thought out move you need to calm down, and let this play out. Someone had to bring this lawsuit to Pence in order to be able to get him to act it’s needed, and he can give Trump the win we know he earned.

The lawsuit challenges the 1887 Electoral Count Act, which dictates the vice president’s role in announcing the results as a ceremonial one. Instead, it says this federal law violates the Twelfth Amendment, which provides for separate Electoral College votes for president and vice president. The lawsuit is filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Gohmert is asking Judge Jeremy Kernodle, a U.S. District judge in Tyler who was appointed by Trump, to allow Pence to choose which electoral votes to count in key states President Donald Trump lost. And remember President Trump retweeted a supporter’s theory that Pence could overthrow the results of the election last week.

Legal and election experts immediately took to Twitter to debunk the lawsuit. “If the Twelfth Amendment somehow gave the Vice President the power to unilaterally throw out electoral votes for the other guy in favor of their own party (and even *themselves*), one might think that one of them would’ve noticed by now,” Steven Vladeck, professor of law at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law.

VP Mike Pence vs. Kamala Harris in only V.P debate of the year!

Untitled Document
Vice President Mike Pence and Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Kamala Harris took each other on in the year’s only vice presidential debate. You can watch the whole debate right here AND follow tweets below where you’ll get a take on everything from the moderator’s questions and the candidates’ claims to fact checks and media spin to plexiglass separators and COVID testing to social media reactions.

According to ABC’s Rick Klein — Harris had more than 3 minutes more time than Pence.

Pence takes on Harris’ record of locking up black men…

Once again, Harris shares the “very fine people” lie Even Politifact shared the truth about what President Trump said after Charlottesville — BECAUSE IT’S IN THE TRANSCRIPT:

Trump: “Excuse me, excuse me. They didn’t put themselves — and you had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group. Excuse me, excuse me. I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name.”

Reporter: “George Washington and Robert E. Lee are not the same.”

Trump: “George Washington was a slave owner. Was George Washington a slave owner? So will George Washington now lose his status? Are we going to take down — excuse me, are we going to take down statues to George Washington? How about Thomas Jefferson? What do you think of Thomas Jefferson? You like him?”

Reporter: “I do love Thomas Jefferson.”

Trump: “Okay, good. Are we going to take down the statue? Because he was a major slave owner. Now, are we going to take down his statue? So you know what, it’s fine. You’re changing history. You’re changing culture. And you had people — and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists because they should be condemned totally — but you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. Okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly. Now, in the other group also, you had some fine people. But you also had troublemakers, and you see them come with the black outfits and with the helmets, and with the baseball bats. You had a lot of bad people in the other group.”

Trump has — several times — condemned white supremacy

There have been many occasions, actually, in which the president denounced white supremacy.

There’s a fly on Pence’s head No one will pay attention to what Harris is saying as long as it stays there.

Glad Pence asked Harris about court packing. Pretty sure Susan Page wasn’t going to do it. The moderator will ask questions that fit her narrative and no others.

“Page forces the debate to move on. This is a joke.”

Nope. Kamala will NOT answer the question about packing the courts

Kamala Harris hasn’t wavered yet from the Biden campaign’s edict to NOT answer the question about packing the Supreme Court.

Jake Tapper probably isn’t too surprised.

2nd Stimulus Check Timeline out?

According to Vice President Mike Pence’s top aide in an interview this morning with Bloomberg Radio, the White House wants Congress to pass another stimulus package by the first week in August, before lawmakers head home for their annual summer recess, and to keep the cost at $1 trillion or less. Marc Short, Pence’s chief of staff, in the interview with Bloomberg Radio, “I think we want to make sure that people that are still unemployed or hurting are protected but at the same time, we want to take into consideration the fact the economy is bouncing back and want to try to contain the amount of spending. “There’s obviously been a lot of stimulus put in the system over the last couple bills, and so the price tag for us would be that.”

The White House and lawmakers are set to intensify talks on a new package of virus-related stimulus this month, after they return to Washington from their Independence Day holiday break. Trump administration officials have eyed a $1 trillion spending cap since at least early June, Bloomberg News reported last month. And the White House expects the next coronavirus relief package will cost up to $1 trillion, Marc Short said. The House is scheduled to begin its recess by Aug. 3, with the Senate following a week later. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said he wants Congress to complete work on the next phase of stimulus by then.

“By that time table, we want to have a bill on the president’s desk,” Short said. Sen. Rob Portman’s Deputy Communications Director released the following statement to FOX8, “As we move forward with negotiations on the next relief package, Rob is open to additional relief but believes it should be targeted at those who need it most while also providing incentives to get individuals safely back to work and to get the economy back up and running.”

Trump said next 2 weeks will be 'very painful' as confirmed US cases approach 200k

At a White House press conference with medical experts on Tuesday, President Trump warned of a “very, very painful two weeks” ahead for Americans. NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci also suggested that 100k-240k Americans could die in the coming months. Fellow expert Dr. Deborah Birx struck a more optimistic note, suggesting extensive mitigation efforts could yield results by July.

In what has to be a somber new tone from the president that comes after his medical advisers showed him data projecting that the virus could kill 100,000–240,000 Americans even with strict social distancing guidelines in place as it is now. Sunday, Trump dropped his aspiration of reopening America by Easter after seeing the data and bleak hospital images out of New York, which is the epicenter of the crisis in the U.S.
The White House published health guidance on Tuesday as part of its new “30 days to slow the spread” plan, which would expire on April 30.

The big picture: Birx, the White House coronavirus task force coordinator, said at the briefing that estimates showed between 1 million to 2 million in the U.S. could die from the virus “without mitigation.”

  • But with social distancing and strong public health measures in place, the “mountain” could be depressed to a “hill” that projects 100,000–240,000 deaths, Birx said.
  • “As sobering a number as that is, we should be prepared for it,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. “Is it going to be that much? I hope not, and I think the more we push on the mitigation, the less likelihood it will be that number.”
  • Trump, who has repeatedly compared the coronavirus to the seasonal flu, said at the briefing: “A lot of people have said ‘Ride it out. Don’t do anything, just ride it out. And think of it as the flu.’ But it’s not the flu. It’s vicious.”

Questioned about his change in tone, Trump said that the pandemic is “really easy to be negative about” but that he tries to maintain optimism and act as a “cheerleader for the country.”

  • “We are going through the worst thing that the country has probably ever seen,” he added. “We lose more here potentially than you lose in world wars. So there’s nothing positive, there’s nothing great about it, but I want to give people in this country hope.”
