Marlins get No. 5 seed, head to Philly for Wild Card Series

Miami begins its quest for a third World Series title in team history and it's now clear after the D-backs' (84-78) loss to the Astros. The Marlins (84-77) secured the fifth seed (second National League Wild Card) by remaining a half-game ahead in the standings. Since Miami won the head-to-head tiebreaker, taking four of six in the season series, resuming Thursday’s suspended game against the Mets on Monday in Queens wouldn’t affect the seeding.

That means the Marlins will head to Philadelphia to face the fourth-seeded Phillies in a best-of-three NL Wild Card Series, beginning on Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park. It will mark the first time the NL East rivals have squared off in the postseason.

Left-hander Ryan Weathers who is the son of former Marlins Dave Weathers and whom the Marlins acquired from the Padres ahead of the Aug. 1 Trade Deadline, went six scoreless innings. Weathers, who was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville to make his second start with the organization, allowed just two hits, walked three and struck out five on 99 pitches. He pitched excellent and will be needed if the team goes deep into the playoffs as the starting 5 took some big hits this season losing for the rest of 2023 ACE Sandy Alcantara and Rookie sensation Eury Pérez to injuries. Now going in without your two "best" is hard for any club to over come but this to me just means the rest of the starters and pitchers in the pen have to step up.

What's fantastic about them going is that other than the 2020 plandemic season this is the first time in years they're in the playoffs. First two times lead to world series runs which lead to wins. IN both 1997 and 2003 I remember my dad and myself going to all the home games in 97 for each game of the playoffs, and world series. Great memories and now with today's kids I hope they get to have that here with the current Marlins team. Which on paper has a nice line up top to bottom.

The main concern again is the starting pitching...

 1. Jesús Luzardo
  2. Braxton Garrett
3. Johnny Cueto
   4. Edward Cabrera
 5. Ryan Weathers

Not exactly scary on paper but those arms all have tons of talent... Cueto is old and has done nothing this year... Maybe this will be his one shining moment for 2023. We shall see... Due to need he's probably going to be in the roster pitching 3rd like on the list there.

Either way it's an exciting time to be a Miami Marlins fan... Wish them well.

Go FISH!

30+ Years and the Marlins FINALLY hit for Cycle...

Hey look at that only took the Miami Marlins 30+ years to have someone hit for the cycle! Remember the team was birthed in 1993 and won two world series one in 1997 and another in 2003! So now the Miami Marlins who have had a very rough couple of seasons have something nice to enjoy this easter week! AS FINALLY the Miami fighting Marlins have a player hit for the Cycle.

And it's someone not many thought would be the guy to deliver such a game! I mean he's not known as a big "home run" hitter but he's more of a line drive singles, doubles guy. Not even someone who steals many bags but gets on base a lot and someone be brought in for Pablo Lopez this off season!

Yes Luis Araez who's off to a very hot start hit his first home run as a member of the Marlins and the Cycle on the same night Jesus Lazardo pitched a great ball game.

Check out the highlights below here...

Chuck Carr, an original Marlin has passed away.......... RIP

So I Remember opening day 1993 my dad and I were sitting there as they called the named out to the opening day line up... We had a great time that year watching the Marlins even when they were not that good. Now Chuck Carr was brought in a few weeks in when Scott Pose, and Junior Felix both fixxeled and Nigel Wilson didn't seem ready. They revamped and not many cared we just were loving that we had MLB down in the MIA!

One day Chuck Carr makes a spectacular play in CF and as he looks dead pan into the camera he gives this bigger than life smile which told the rest of the story on how he felt after the catch. He became a house hold favorite not just here but the entire league for a while it looked like he was headed for big things as he won the Stolen Bases crown and eveything.

I'm not sure what happened to him but he was a heck of an enjoyable player to watch run down balls in CF while in a Marlins Uniform... Well he was 55 when he passed away just now and this brings me back some. Sad... Rest in Peace "Chuckie Carr"

Chuck Carr, a key member of the Marlins' expansion, recently died at the age of 55. According to family social media posts, the San Bernardino, Calif., native was apparently battling health issues.

"We are saddened to hear of the passing of Chuck Carr," the Marlins said in a statement. "One of the original Florida Marlins, Chuck quickly engrained himself as a fan favorite as he was often seen making amazing catches in the outfield or speeding around the bases. We send our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time."

At the start of his professional career, Carr bounced around three organizations before making his Major League debut with the Mets on April 28, 1990. But he appeared in only 16 games and didn't receive an everyday opportunity until the Marlins selected him with the 14th pick in the 1992 Expansion Draft.

Though a 25-year-old Carr didn't start in the Marlins' inaugural game on April 5, 1993, he went on to play in a career-high 142 contests that season. Carr stole a National League-best 58 bases and posted the highest range factor per nine innings among center fielders, finishing fourth in NL Rookie of the Year voting.

Carr slashed .256/.320/.326 with 58 doubles, four triples, eight homers and 115 stolen bases in 353 games across three seasons in South Florida before being dealt to the Brewers with Minor Leaguer Ty Narcisse for Juan Gonzalez in December 1995.

During his tenure in Milwaukee in 1997, Carr infamously ignored a take sign, swung on a 2-0 pitch and made an out. Following the game, Carr said, "That ain't Chuckie’s game.

Chuck was granted free agency soon after and signed with the Astros. Carr's eight-year MLB career came to a close with the 1997 NL Central champion Astros, who lost in the NL Division Series to Atlanta. In that matchup, Carr went deep off Hall of Famer John Smoltz.

The Braves would later fall in the NL Championship Series to the eventual World Series champion Marlins.

The Miami Marlins... A Look back. First decade.

I've been a long time fan of the Florida/Miami Marlins, and with the recent passing of one of our original members of the Marlins Chuck Carr having just passed away at age 55 I thought I'd give a video tribute look back at the first decade and two rings of this franchise in Miami Florida.

Miami Marlins Michael Hill Supports B.L.M Terrorists!

Marlins executive speaks out on ‘Black Lives Matter,’ how change needs to come, and how he supports their movement. As we have become fully aware these past two weeks this group along with Anti-fa have destroyed, looted, and rioted all over this country. This are terrorists in our own country! They are Domestic terror groups, and now we know where Michael Hill, the Miami Marlins, and MLB stand. Not behind our rule of law, or constitution. But they stand behind terrorists groups. And again instead of using his platform to try and bring unity Hill like BLM use it to bring more division to the country.

I for one don’t need sports or new media “entertainment” coming from Hollyweird if this is how they feel. They can all go to hell. Hope they never reopen at this point. How do you like them Apples Mr Hill?

Michael Hill wrapped up a busy week with the MLB draft. As president of baseball operations for the Miami Marlins, Hill was ecstatic with the pitchers the team was able to find in the draft. He believes the future is bright for the organization.

But, Hill also had an issue he wanted to discuss that he felt was much more important to the future, and it had nothing to do with baseball.

Hill joined Local 10 Sports Sunday and discussed a topic that is at the forefront of so many conversations these days in America; racial injustice and police brutality toward members of the black community.

Hill is one of only a handful of black executives in Major League Baseball. He was born to an African-American father and a Cuban mother. He feels he can be part of the voice for change and said now is the time to take action.

“We rallied our group of leaders in baseball and said, ‘Enough is enough.’ Racial injustice, we know it’s despicable, but we know that we all can do more. We know as a powerful group we can do more. We can bring awareness, which was the first goal, but the second goal was to try and keep this movement moving forward,” Hill explained on the show.

Hill knows that people care, but he wants to make sure that it doesn’t stop with just words and statements of change.

“So many times when something awful happens, we all acknowledge it’s awful and then we’re on to our next thing in 24 hours, but this was something that we wanted to put our money where our mouth was. We wanted to make sure that this movement continues and change is truly put in place,” Hill stressed.

He added, “We understand that ’Black Lives Matter,’ but we also wanted to show that we are united for change. Thirty competitors in baseball were united and we’re all going to use our voices that we have to do more. There’s some self reflection that we all have to do.”

MLB announced that donations were made to several organizations that support and fight for racial justice, including the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Equal Justice Initiative, Color OF Change, Campaign Zero and the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
