30+ Years and the Marlins FINALLY hit for Cycle...

Hey look at that only took the Miami Marlins 30+ years to have someone hit for the cycle! Remember the team was birthed in 1993 and won two world series one in 1997 and another in 2003! So now the Miami Marlins who have had a very rough couple of seasons have something nice to enjoy this easter week! AS FINALLY the Miami fighting Marlins have a player hit for the Cycle.

And it's someone not many thought would be the guy to deliver such a game! I mean he's not known as a big "home run" hitter but he's more of a line drive singles, doubles guy. Not even someone who steals many bags but gets on base a lot and someone be brought in for Pablo Lopez this off season!

Yes Luis Araez who's off to a very hot start hit his first home run as a member of the Marlins and the Cycle on the same night Jesus Lazardo pitched a great ball game.

Chuck Carr, an original Marlin has passed away.......... RIP

So I Remember opening day 1993 my dad and I were sitting there as they called the named out to the opening day line up... We had a great time that year watching the Marlins even when they were not that good. Now Chuck Carr was brought in a few weeks in when Scott Pose, and Junior Felix both fixxeled and Nigel Wilson didn't seem ready. They revamped and not many cared we just were loving that we had MLB down in the MIA!



One day Chuck Carr makes a spectacular play in CF and as he looks dead pan into the camera he gives this bigger than life smile which told the rest of the story on how he felt after the catch. He became a house hold favorite not just here but the entire league for a while it looked like he was headed for big things as he won the Stolen Bases crown and eveything.

I'm not sure what happened to him but he was a heck of an enjoyable player to watch run down balls in CF while in a Marlins Uniform... Well he was 55 when he passed away just now and this brings me back some. Sad... Rest in Peace "Chuckie Carr"

Chuck Carr, a key member of the Marlins' expansion, recently died at the age of 55. According to family social media posts, the San Bernardino, Calif., native was apparently battling health issues.

"We are saddened to hear of the passing of Chuck Carr," the Marlins said in a statement. "One of the original Florida Marlins, Chuck quickly engrained himself as a fan favorite as he was often seen making amazing catches in the outfield or speeding around the bases. We send our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time."

At the start of his professional career, Carr bounced around three organizations before making his Major League debut with the Mets on April 28, 1990. But he appeared in only 16 games and didn't receive an everyday opportunity until the Marlins selected him with the 14th pick in the 1992 Expansion Draft.

Though a 25-year-old Carr didn't start in the Marlins' inaugural game on April 5, 1993, he went on to play in a career-high 142 contests that season. Carr stole a National League-best 58 bases and posted the highest range factor per nine innings among center fielders, finishing fourth in NL Rookie of the Year voting.

Carr slashed .256/.320/.326 with 58 doubles, four triples, eight homers and 115 stolen bases in 353 games across three seasons in South Florida before being dealt to the Brewers with Minor Leaguer Ty Narcisse for Juan Gonzalez in December 1995.


During his tenure in Milwaukee in 1997, Carr infamously ignored a take sign, swung on a 2-0 pitch and made an out. Following the game, Carr said, "That ain't Chuckie’s game.

Chuck was granted free agency soon after and signed with the Astros. Carr's eight-year MLB career came to a close with the 1997 NL Central champion Astros, who lost in the NL Division Series to Atlanta. In that matchup, Carr went deep off Hall of Famer John Smoltz.

The Braves would later fall in the NL Championship Series to the eventual World Series champion Marlins.

The Miami Marlins... A Look back. First decade.

 

I've been a long time fan of the Florida/Miami Marlins, and with the recent passing of one of our original members of the Marlins Chuck Carr having just passed away at age 55 I thought I'd give a video tribute look back at the first decade and two rings of this franchise in Miami Florida.
