Lawmakers will suspend their ongoing impeachment investigation of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo

The leader of the New York State Assembly said Friday that lawmakers will suspend their ongoing impeachment investigation of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, following his resignation earlier this week over sexual harassment allegations. Some Legislators Still Want to Impeach Him and according to the the New York State Assembly could still move to impeach the governor, but many high-ranking Democrats want to avoid that outcome. But wait didn’t they press on and tried to impeach a former President? 

Even after he left office? Now the DemocRATS don’t want this done on their “GOLD STANDARD” the sexually abusive, nipple ring having pervert from New York who murdered how many elderly people?The reason why he was made to resign wasn’t cause of his crime against women. He was forced out as a way to safe face and protect some of the other moron governors on the left like him to stuck sick covid patients with folks in nursing homes and hospice and ended up murdering many of those older folks. 

YES folks this is all show and optics by the left. The man is a literal murderer, and a sexual pervert possible rapist and the left is covering for him. HE Said last year that he wasn’t running for re-election which is why he played along with their agenda and is now still helping cover up as they’re helping him cover up.IF This wasn’t the case and they moved on with a bullshit scam impeachment of Trump AFTER he left office why not do it to Cuomo also? Because in both cases once a person leaves office there is no need to impeach them unless there’re sinister motives behind it.Carl E. Heastie, the speaker of the Assembly, said the inquiry was moot since its main objective was to determine whether Mr. Cuomo, a third-term Democrat, should remain in office. Mr. Heastie, a Bronx Democrat, also said he believed lawmakers did not have the constitutional authority to impeach a governor who was no longer in power. 

Sounds an awful lot like what the right was saying about Trump when the left wanted to impeach him a 2nd time doesn’t it?But they are still grappling over whether Mr. Cuomo’s resignation also should effectively end the impeachment investigation he was facing. The Assembly had been moving quickly toward ousting Mr. Cuomo from office, spurred by a devastating report from the state attorney general, released on Aug. 3, that concluded the governor had engaged in a pattern of unwanted touching and suggestive remarks. If Mr. Cuomo were impeached and convicted in a trial in the State Senate, lawmakers could decide to bar him from holding state elected office, an outcome that some in the Legislature support.“It’s about accountability,” said Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou, a Democrat from Lower Manhattan. “It’s really important that we don’t allow him to continue his abuse elsewhere. 

We have to make sure that he can’t hold office again.” Mr. Cuomo, whose resignation will take effect later this month, said Tuesday he would step down after a report from the New York State attorney general that found that he had sexually harassed 11 women. The Assembly had been investigating some of the same allegations, among others, and began to move quickly toward impeachment once the report was released.The suspension of the investigation marks one less concern for Mr. Cuomo, who could have found himself in the middle of a costly impeachment trial. Mr. Cuomo is still facing inquiries from local, state and federal investigators.Even so, Mr. Heastie said that the impeachment investigation, which was being led by the Judiciary Committee, “did uncover credible evidence in relation to allegations” made against Mr. Cuomo.

Mr. Heastie said that evidence was related not only to the sexual harassment claims, but also to Mr. Cuomo’s potential misuse of state resources in putting together a book on leadership, which he wrote during the pandemic last year in a $5.1 million deal. Mr. Heastie also said there was evidence of the “misleading disclosure” of data on nursing home deaths.Remember this guy is the same man Biden called “The Gold Standard” and who was being called to run for President by the MSM… The left loved Cuomo, and trashed Trump and now we know the biggest criminal to come out of NY was Cuomo NOT TRUMP! So once again the hypocrisy of the left is on full display. They don’t care about the 11 woman this is still a move to safe face, and a power grab as now a more progrssive woman democRAT will be running the state until election time, and then I suspect they will try to seat someone like AOC (that’s a scary thought!) or another progressive woman they want in there because this is how the left thinks they can win. 

Keep putting women who are sold out and progressive communists in these positions so if you a man speaks out against them you’re looked at as sexist, racist, xenophobe or whatever lie they slander you with while doing the evil practices they keep doing to destroy our country from within.While some might see this as a win for the right it’s not it’s not a win or a loss just more show, and bullshit while the left keeps pushing their Greedy New Deal, and all the bullshit they pass while keeping you sheeple entertained by the msm lies about 1/6 and Trump. This is all just optics, and a game they’re playing to continue their power grab. The left are liars, and are good at it. They didn’t have the legal or moral right to impeach Trump even once there was no proof of wrong doing but they did it twice based on fake, false, and made up bullshit. Here Cuomo, Gretchen Whitmer and others are literally guilty of murder, and will get away with it Scott free.“At the very least, the committee should have fully completed its investigation, generated a report detailing all aspects of the governor’s misconduct and violations of state law, and made that report public,” said Assemblyman Dan Quart, a Democrat and member of the Judiciary Committee.Will Barclay, the Republican minority leader in the Assembly, also took aim at the decision. “Mountains of evidence and months of work will now be hidden from the public by this disappointing, tone-deaf decision,” he said.On Friday, however, Charles Lavine, the chair of Judiciary Committee, said that the committee would still consider issuing a public report with some of the findings after Mr. Cuomo resigns.

Michael Whyland, a spokesman for Mr. Heastie, said, “We have not precluded a report in the future. But what we don’t want is to interfere with any criminal investigations that are being undertaken.”Mr. Heastie’s announcement came after several days of debate among legislators over whether to pursue impeachment. Even after Mr. Cuomo’s resignation, Republicans and some Democratic lawmakers, especially those from the party’s vocal left wing, had been pushing to hold an impeachment vote, saying they wanted to hold Mr. Cuomo accountable. Some of the women who had accused Mr. Cuomo, including Lindsey Boylan and Charlotte Bennett, had also voiced their support for impeachment in recent days.If Mr. Cuomo had been impeached in the Assembly and then convicted in a Senate trial, lawmakers would have had the option of barring him from ever running for state office again. Sounds like what they did to Trump right? But they don’t do it to Cuomo an actual criminal because again the man being impeached was never really an agenda the radicals cared about this was all about saving the ass of others by having him vanish so questions don’t come up anymore about the sick patients he killed, and others who did the same on the left.

But it remained unclear under the State Constitution, which provides very little guidance on impeachment, whether the legislature could impeach an official who had already left office. Lawmakers could have rushed to impeach Mr. Cuomo before his resignation took effect, but the trial would have still taken place after he left office, raising constitutional concerns. Again the same one Trump supporters brought up last impeachment which was ignored by Nasty Nancy Pelosi, and her cohorts of evil people in congress, and the senate. They don’t care about the victims only about saving themselves and keeping their power.There is no precedent in New York for impeaching a former governor; the only governor to be impeached was Gov. William Sulzer, in 1913, who was removed from office but not prohibited from running again. Many Democrats had argued against moving to oust Mr. Cuomo, saying that the proceedings would have been a costly distraction for the party, especially during the first few months of Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul’s time in office.

The Assembly’s broad impeachment investigation was being conducted by an outside law firm, Davis Polk & Wardwell. Latrice Walker, a Democratic member of the Judiciary Committee, said she also opposed impeachment, saying that for someone who had been hailed as “America’s governor” at the height of the pandemic, resignation was punishment enough. But wait this isn’t how it was said about Trump! Had this been Donald Trump they would not have stopped they would have continued until he was in prison in GITMO!Others, such as Catalina Cruz, a Democrat from Queens and a member of the committee, said they were still grappling with the issue. “I think there are very valid reasons to continue and very valid reasons not to. I’m taking the weekend to think through it,” Ms. Cruz said.Even if there is enough political will to impeach, there is no precedent in New York for impeaching a governor after he leaves office. 

Lawmakers would have to navigate a process riddled with open-ended and complicated constitutional questions. “Until two days ago, there was no debate because I don’t think this had ever come up,” said Richard Briffault, a professor at Columbia University and an expert on state constitutional law. “There is no doubt that they can impeach while he is in office. If he ceases to be in office, can he be impeached? I just don’t know. The Constitution doesn’t address it.”Legislators could rush to impeach Mr. Cuomo before he steps down in 12 days, but a Senate trial would still happen after he leaves. And even then, it is unclear if Mr. Cuomo could legally be barred from running for office again, some scholars said, since that stipulation appears to be tied to his being impeached while in office.“Lawmakers could make the argument that since they began the proceedings, then they’re entitled to in fact complete the impeachment process,” said Leonard M. Cutler, a professor of political science at Siena College. “Undoubtedly, it would wind up in the courts.”Though impeaching a governor is incredibly rare about a dozen governors in U.S. history have ever been impeached impeaching a former governor is almost unheard of. James E. Ferguson of Texas was impeached and tried in 1917 while he was governor, but resigned right before he was convicted. He was nonetheless barred from holding office again.The debate unfolding in Albany has some parallels with the second impeachment of President Donald J. Trump after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. The House rushed to impeach Mr. Trump on Jan. 13, about a week before his term ended, with the Senate’s acquitting him on Feb. 13, after he left office. 

The process kicked off a bitter debate among constitutional scholars on whether a former president could be impeached and tried.Republicans, who are in the minority in the New York State Legislature, appear to be pushing for impeachment, perhaps unsurprisingly. The party is likely to wield Mr. Cuomo’s scandals as a cudgel against Democrats in upcoming elections.“There are some serious allegations that have been lodged, and there’s been an ongoing investigation that has cost taxpayers a substantial amount of money,” said Assemblyman Keith Brown, a Republican from Suffolk County who sits on the Judiciary Committee. “We believe that New Yorkers have a right to know what the outcome of that investigation is in terms of the facts of what happened.”The support among Republicans has given Democrats some pause. Impeachment, some Democrats also believe, could amount to an unwelcome distraction for Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul during her first few months in office after she is sworn in as governor on Aug. 24. (Ms. Hochul said on Thursday that she planned to run for re-election next year.)“Anyone who is arguing for the impeachment process to continue is being disingenuous,” said Jay Jacobs, the chairman of the state’s Democratic Party and a longtime ally of Mr. Cuomo. 

“They are looking to be vengeful of a governor who they have accused of being vengeful himself. They are doing it to promote themselves, to keep the cameras on, also to hurt Democrats in the elections. They don’t want to see this fire burn out.”The Assembly inquiry is looking not only at sexual harassment claims, but also at how the Cuomo administration sought to play down the nursing home death toll during the pandemic and whether the governor used state resources, including staff, to write a pandemic memoir that earned him $5.1 million.During his resignation announcement, Mr. Cuomo appeared to leave the door open for a return to politics, however remote that scenario may be.

In listing his reasons to step down, he also sent lawmakers a not-so-subtle message on what he saw as the perils of moving against him.“This situation by its current trajectory will generate months of political and legal controversy,” he said. “That is what is going to happen. That is how the political wind is blowing. It will consume government. It will cost taxpayers millions of dollars. It will brutalize people.”
