WELL THIS IS COOL NEWS! Looks like Filming has wrapped up on Scream 5, Fandango reported today! For all us Scream fans this is awesome news indeed… I wasn’t sure what the status was during the Pandemic and all but they made it work. Spyglass and Paramount Pictures will release the film worldwide on January 14, 2022, just about one year and two months away from this very day. The new movie, which doesn’t yet have an official title other than “Scream 5” and it is a sequel to all the previous movies, and not some re-start or reboot. This was filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The January 2022 release may seem a little strange for a big time horror movie franchise as this, as it’s often considered a “dump month” for horror, but keep in mind that the first three Scream movies were released in December and February. The most recent installment in the franchise, Wes Craven’s Scream 4 back in 2011, brought Ghostface back to theaters in April. So this could still move from now t than.
It will likely be a while before we have a trailer or the first batch of images from Scream 5, but we can expect that 2021 will be a big year on the Scream front. The cast includes!
Dylan Minnette (Goosebumps), Mason Gooding (Let It Snow), Kyle Gallner (Ghosts of War), Jasmin Savoy Brown (“Love”) and Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) recently joined an ensemble that also includes Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, David Arquette and Courteney Cox who will return as Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers, as well as new cast members Jack Quaid (“The Boys”), Melissa Barrera (“In The Heights”) and Jenna Ortega (“You”). Marley Shelton is also returning as Scream 4 character Deputy Judy Hicks
Sadly as we all know Legendary director Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street) directed the first 4 movies in this franchise however he’s passed away since the last installment. So “Scream 5” is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S) from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock).
